The UK’s independent authority on slip resistance

What is surface roughness Rz testing?

Slip resistance is dependent on the roughness profile of a surface. Rz is a peak to trough measurement and is only one parameter. It does not take into account the shape of the peaks, the spacing or any directionality. It therefore can not be relied upon as a measure of slip resistance. However, when used in conjunction with a pendulum measurement, measured simultaneously, it can give useful information and should be noted.
More about roughness measurements and how to use the data can be found in the UKSRG Guidelines under “3.5 Interpreting roughness data”.
