Why do the pendulum sliders cost so much?

The price of slider rubber is determined by the manufacturer.

Sliders use a natural (changeable) product to meet a tight specification. This means that for each batch of rubber produced the recipe may need to be tweaked or adjusted to achieve acceptable values. Batches failing to meet requirements will be discarded. Batches meeting the requirements have to be stored in a controlled environment.
