Who are you?

My name is Dr Mike Minett I work for Polyflor/James Halstead in Manchester and lead a team of Technologists involved in the development and testing of resilient flooring products.

What is your experience?

I have worked in the flooring industry for over 25 years in which time I have developed many new products and in particular many novel market leading safety flooring products. These developments were recognized by a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

I am also involved in various European and International trade standardization committees and represent the UK in the following areas:

  • PRI60 Resilient Flooring Standards (UK Chair)
  • CEN/TC 134 modular floorings European committee (UK representative and convenor of WG10 harmonization sub-committee)
  • ISO TC219 Resilient, textile and laminate floorcoverings international committee (UK representative)
  • B507/7 UK committee on pedestrian slip resistance (UK expert)
  • CEN TC339 slip resistance of pedestrian surfaces (UK representative)

In addition to this I represent Polyflor in Industry Trade Associations such as ERFMI (European resilient flooring manufacturers institute) and CFA (Contract Flooring Association).

Why are you a UKSRG member?

My extensive experience in both the development of safety floor coverings and knowledge and understanding of slip test methods. Puts me in an ideal position to work with UKSRG colleagues to improve and enhance slip test methods.

I am currently working with other UKSRG members to adapt and improve the current UKSRG guidelines and also on a working group to review and develop methods to measure sustainability of slip in floor coverings.
