Slider 55, 57 or 59?
During the introduction of new European Standards EN 13036-4 and EN 16165 reference was made to Slider 57. This was a specification designed to encapsulate the Smithers Slider 55 and the BAM Slider 59. Slider 55, at the time of writing meets the specification* of Slider 57 and therefore can be used as Slider 57. Slider 59, which is being developed by BAM as a Slider 57 does not yet meet these requirements for the resilience over the whole range of temperatures required by the standard.
*It is important to check the specification for Hardness and resilience over the whole temperature range when purchasing either Slider 55 from Smithers or Slider 57 from BAM.
If Slider 55 meets the requirements of Slider 57 as specified in either of the above standards then it can be stated in reports that Slider 57 was used. If unsure, you can simply use the statement, ‘the slider used met the slider requirements as stated in the standard’.
